Marriage Requirements
Our Demographic Registry is conveniently located at the Plaza Las Américas mall in San Juan. You can call toll-free at 800-918-7575 from 8 a.m. to midnight daily except holidays to make an appointment. Unlike many Caribbean destinations, you do not need to be a resident of Puerto Rico to get married here. All you need to do is present an affidavit stating that you are not a resident of Puerto Rico, and that the sole purpose of your visit is to get married here. Non-US citizens must also include that you will not be staying in Puerto Rico for more than what is allowed. Affidavits written in the United States must be accompanied by certification of your state's county clerk. For affidavits written in Republics or Sovereign Countries, the Apostille seal of the Hague Treaty of 1961 is required.
Laboratory tests
You must provide a medical certification that shows compliance with tests required for marriage in your place of residence. Be aware that this certification is only valid for 10 days, so you must say “I do” within this 10 days time period.
Identifications
Don’t forget to bring valid photo identification, passport, state-issued ID, visa or green card.
Authentication of documents
An Internal Revenue Stamp of $20 gets your license authenticated. These are readily available inside the Demographic Registry.
Birth Certificate
In order to record your official name, please bring a copy of your birth certificate.
Other certificates
If you are divorced or a widower, please bring the corresponding certificates.
Marriage certificate
Once the proper documents are submitted and revised for compliance by the registrar, the marriage certificate is issued and signed. It's very important you bring it to the ceremony! A properly identified parent must accompany couples under 21 so they can then sign the marriage certificate in the presence of the minor(s).
Certificate delivery
For the last and final step, you must deliver the certificate, marriage license and all other attached documents to the Demographic Registry of the municipality where the ceremony took place no more than 10 days after the marriage.

Venues
Perhaps the best part of getting married in Puerto Rico is choosing where to tie the knot. Some couples prefer a sunset wedding on the beach (and we have numerous beaches available to you). Others choose the leafy sanctuary of the El Yunque rainforest. The colonial elegance and romance of Old San Juan makes for an unforgettable wedding, especially when you can get married within the walls of an ancient fort or at of the oldest churches in the western hemisphere. If you’re looking for something truly unique, you can even exchange your vows in an awe-inspiring subterranean cavern. Of course, we also have resorts and boutique hotels around the island that have hosted weddings ranging from intimate, moderate affairs to extravagant nuptials that make global headlines.
Not Just For You
Remember that half the fun of throwing a destination wedding is giving your guests an exotic holiday. Our choice of venue also gives your friends and family a chance to experience the wonders of Puerto Rico!

Places of Worship
Only in Puerto Rico can you get married in two of the oldest churches in the New World without really leaving the U.S. Beyond our myriad churches (which you can find in the main square of every town and city in Puerto Rico), we have places of worship for every major faith around the island.
Old San Juan’s Cathedral
The Catedral de San Juan is the second oldest church in the western hemisphere. Located in the heart of Old San Juan, this church is almost 500 years old and houses the remains of Juan Ponce de León. It’s the site of many of Puerto Rico’s most prominent weddings.
San Jorge
Located in hip and fashionable Condado, San Jorge has hosted some of the most beautiful weddings in Puerto Rico. The church is noted for its Gothic architecture, massive organ and heavenly choir.
Ponce Cathedral
Dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Ponce Cathedral is one of Puerto Rico’s oldest and most beloved churches. Built in 1670, its twin bell towers and neoclassical façade dominate the elegant Plaza de las Delicias in the city center.
